INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD. 11th October.
This day is celebrated annually to commemorate with the girl child all over the world. The day has numerous aims among which include promoting girl’s empowerment and fulfllment of their human right. The day also highlights the challenges that girls all over the world face. Each year there comes a theme including Empower Girls before, during and after crisis, girls progress, etc all centered around creating awareness on the girl child to the world on issues relating to their education, equality, child marriage, access to services regarding puberty and sexual health and also addressing issues around gender-based violence. This day brings together different Organisations that serve girls to further the advancement of their human rights.
Different events are held across the world to celebrate this day some sponsored by UN like marches and special concert. NGOs like Girls Guide also support events and activities, the Social media is also not left out as the use of hastag #dayofthegirl trends through out the day to track events and news about the girl child. Jumali Teen Summer Leadership Training Academy in Partnership with MDSCF join the world to celebrate and also create awareness on this day. Happy International Day of the Girl Child.
