INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ZERO TOLARANCE TO FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION; 6TH FEBRUARY.
Today all over the United Member Nations is obserbed as International Day of Zero Tolarence to Female Genital Mutilation. The day was aimed at creating awareness to eradicate female genital mutilation
Genital is a term refer to or of relating to bioligical reproduction of relating to genitalia, or of psychosexual development during puberty.
Mutilation means state of being mulitated. Genital mutilation therefore is a practice where the biological reproduction are mutilated. This practice is more on female folks mostly girls of teenage age . It is an old tradition yet still being practiced in some communities of the world. This practice needs to be addressed so as to create awareness on its danger on the victims. The abolition of such practices must be prompt.
The day was set aside by the United Nations to enlighten the populance on the abolition of this menace. The movement is for fighting violence against women and girls as a whole and for the protection the rights of women/girls and their bodies, as well as the protection of their physical health- which can be tremendously affected later in life.
On this day, Government agencies, Women Ministry, CSO’s, CBO’s, NGO’s, INGO’s and other groups working with women and teenage girls come out in their hundreds using their resources and voice to protest against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)in their countries. . It is an effort to make the world aware of FGM and to promote its eradication to zero tolerance.
Jumali and MDSCF are partners working with the female gender(girls and women)in the society and they join the world over in observing this day and call on general public to support the moves to bring the menace down.
