INTERNATIONAL MIGRANTS DAY; 18th December.
United Nations General Assembly Assembly on 4th December 2000 declared the 18th December every year as International Migrants Day. It is WHO day.
The day is an opportunity to recognize the contribution made by millions of Migrants to the economies of their host and home countries promote, respect for their basic human rights.
The day was adopted on the 18th December 1990 by UNGA in a resolution on the international convention on the protection of the rights of all Migrant workers and their families.
Migration is known to boost the work-age population, they arrive with skills and contribution to human capital development of receiving countries.
The aim of the day include drawing attention to Migrants in response to increasing migrants around the world.
Theme for 2023 “Promote safe migration”
Sensitization awareness are made on this to raise awareness on the importance of Migrants to development of any Nation.
