INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FAMILIES: 15th May.
Family is a group of people consisting of on or two parents and their children and close relations. It could also mean people who are related to each other.
It is the basic unit of the society (UN)
Today is International Day of families. The 15th of May every year as declared by the UN. The day is observed globally amongst all world cultures in all UN member countries.
The day was adopted by UN General Assembly through its resolution
A/RES/47/237 with the intention of increasing the understanding of the economic, social, and demographic issues affecting families.

The aim of the day is to reflect on the significance that International community accords to the family as the basic unit of society, as well as voicing concerns regarding the current state of affairs of the family unit around the world.

To observe the day, Civil Society Organizations, Government and Non Governmental Organizations organise series of celebration events which may include exhibitions and discussions to deliberate on ideas that are relevant to the specific theme of the year. In some countries, toolkits are created to help communities organise celebrations targeting different sections of the population, such as teenagers, youths and young adults. Public official seminars and forum are also held to discuss the policies that affect the family.
The day provides a great opportunity for people to spend time in either nuclear or extended families.
Jumali and MDSCF as partners in progress working with all the sections of the families join the world over and the organizations working on families and their well-being to commemorate the day.

Happy INTERNATIONAL FAMILIES DAY from JTSLTA and MDSCF
