INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY (IWD); 8TH MARCH.
Today is observed as International Women’s Day. It is a day decleared to celebrate women all over the world because of the roles they play as mothers , working women, care and support givers .
Who is a Woman?
A Woman is an adult female. The plural is Women.
Women have an important role they play in the society at large , as such they are in every nooks and cranies of the society. They bring progress and development and on the whole, women are the backbone of the family from which it owes its origin, this calls for their recogntion internationally especially by United Nations member states.
The day is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights. The day is honoured annually in recognition of the working women. It was predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted as feminist movement. Women groups and associations world over observe the day with lots of activities which include public holiday as observed by some countries, some observe it with protest, rally and sensitization seminars. All in an effort to show the importance of womanhood.
