INTERNATIONAL MIGRANT DAY, 18TH December.
Today is World Migrants Day. It is a day set aside to recognize the important contribution of Migrants.
It is an annually observed day declared by UN General Assembly in 1990 in its resolution, it adopted the international convention on the protection of the rights of all Migrant workers and members of their families.
More than 280 million people have left their countries to pursue “opportunities, dignity, freedom and a better life”
Each year, the UN through the UN related International Organizations for Migrant use the day with the ever increasing number of Migrants moving across the world, UN declared 18th December as a day to celebrate the Migrants.
The international community must do better to ensure the world’s 169 million Migrant workers are able to realize their basic and labour rights.
This year’s theme will focus on “Integrating Migrants into primary health care and finding what action can be tackled.
INGOs, CSOs, NGOs as well as government agencies working and supporting Migrants organise series of online, visual programs to create awareness on the importance of the day.
Jumali and MDSCF join the world of Migrants to commemorate the day.
