INTERNATIONAL DAY TO END IMPUNITY FOR CRIMES AGAINST JOURNALISTS, 2nd November.
United Nations General Assembly resolution had dedicated a special day to condemn all attacks against journalists and media workers, this day is the 2nd of November.
It is observed annually by all UN member Nations, individuals and organizations worldwide.
On this day, UNESCO renews it’s call for all necessary measures to ensure that crimes committed against journalist are properly investigated.
The day reaffirms recommit and reposition efforts to advance the United Nations plan. It also draws attention to the level of impunity for crimes against journalists which remain extremely high .
In Nigeria, a member of UN draws it’s theme for this year’s observance- “Policy Dialogue on Media, Civil Society and violence free election.
As part of the activities for the day, organizations, and individuals are encouraged to talk about the unresolved cases in their countrry, and write to government and intra-governmental officials to demand action and justice. Awareness campaign and other advocacy initiatives relating to the problem of impunity for crimes against freedom of expression are also carried out .
Jumali, a training academy as well as Civil Society Organization join the media organizations and other government agencies worldwide to observe the day and join the UNESCO to renew its call.
