INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ERADICATION OF POVERTY; 17th October.
Today is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, it is a day which is traced back to 1987 when UNGA declared it and it’s been observed every year on this day
Poverty is an economic issue as well as multidimensional, this is because it has encompasses lack of both income and the basic capabilities of living in dignity.
Millions of people worldwide are believed to be living in extreme poverty.
Persons living in poverty experience many interrelated and mutually reinforcing deprivations that prevent them from realizing their rights and perpetuate poverty, including dangerous work condition, unsafe housing, lack of nutritious food, limited access to health care etc.
The day provides an opportunity to acknowledge the efforts and struggle of people living in poverty, a chance for them to make their concern head a movement to recognize that poor people are the first ones to fight against poverty.
Theme for this year 2022 observance “Diginty for all in practice” the convention are made together for social justice.
Better social protection can help the poor better manage risk, enhance the health and education of their children are some of the calls and commitment by INGOs, CSOs, and people from different backgrounds, beliefs and social origin who are gathered every year on this day to proclaimed and show their solidarity with the poor.
Jumali and MDSCF join the world over to observe the day and also add their voices on the proclaimed actions on poverty eradication.
