INTERNATIONAL DAY OF RURAL WOMEN; 15th October.
Today is 15th day in the month of October, it is a day United Nations General Assembly declared as International day of Rural Women.
The day recognizes the role of rural women responsibilities and knowledge that differ from those of men. The day highlights the essential roles of rural women and girls as played In the food system of the world. Rural women are active agents of economic and social change as well as environmental protection who are in many ways and to various degrees constrained in their roles as farmers, producers, investors, caregivers and consumers.
Theme of this year 2022 “Rural women cultivating good food for all”.
Role of rural women may be looked into;
As farmers, they plant, weed and harvest food crop and tend livestock.
As caregivers, they look after children and relatives, prepare meals and manage the home.
Events to commemorate the day by rural women and girls this may include outreaches and seminars by the women groups and associations, Women Non Governmental Organizations, government agencies working with women and girls to create awareness on the importance of the day as they play a vital role as rural support to those that live in the cities.
Jumali and MDSCF with their targets teenage girls and women respectively join the world of rural women to commemorate the day.
