INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO INFORMATION; 28th September.

Information is power, and very vital instrument in every development.

Today is observed as International Day for Universal Access to Information. It is a United Nations declared day and observe annually by all member Nations.
It was first initiated and adopted by UNESCO as a resolution on 17th November, 2015, later United Nations General Assembly proclaimed on 15 October, 2019 at its 74th session that 28th September declare International day for Universal access to Information.

The day supports the idea that everyone around the globe has the fundamental rights to seek, receive and disseminate information, this is linked to the right to freedom of expression, communication at all levels; local, national and worldwide.

Theme for this year’s commomoration is “Artificial Intelligence e-governance and access to information “.

Activities for the day include conferences where participants participate in International policy and narrative discussion on access to Information as human rights worldwide, ie #Access toinfoday.
It is an opportunity to discuss e-governance and seek to promote and protect access to information as fundamental human right. This is to say e-government can play an important role to improve access to information in our digital world. They can help bridge the digital divide by giving citizen access to tailor- made and accessible information.

Jumali as an NGO for training and disseminating information to its target join other others in UN member Nations and other Civil Society Organizations working on sensitization on information and dissemination to observe the day.
