INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE PRESERVATION OF THE OZONE LAYER, 16th September.
Ozone layer is a thin layer found in the atmosphere at an altitude of about 10lm (6.2 miles). Its importance can not be over emphasised both to humans and other living organisms.
Today is declared as International day for the preservations of the ozone layer.
Ozone is a colourless, unstable toxic gas with a pungent odour and powerful oxidizing properties, formed from oxygen by electrical discharge or ultra violet light. Also, Ozone layer is a layer in the earth”s stratosphere containing a high concentration of ozone, which absorbs most of the ultraviolet radiation reaching the earth from the sun.

The day is a United Nations declared and observed annually on today.
Activities marking the day which are organised by
Government agencies, Civil Society Organizations, International Non Governmental Organizations and others working on climate changes and related issues sensitize the general public through different programs including online, video calls, phone in programs to create awareness on the importance of this ozone layer so as to preserve the layer from destruction by natural and man made artificial activities.

Over the years, the Montreal protocol has done much than shrink the ozone hole; it has shown how environmental governance respond to science, and how countries come together to address a shared vulnerability.
Each year, a theme is drawn and agreed by all member Nations to address the menace.
Jumali and MDSCF join hand with the stakeholders on climate change to amplify the preservations of the ozone layer.
