WORLD DAY OF COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT, 17th JUNE.
Desertification and drought are amongs the Environmental hazard that hinders the well-being of the society we lived in. They occur in most tropical and subtropical areas of the world They cause great havoc to the human and the entire ecosystem socially and economically.
Today, the 17th of June is observe as World Day of Combat Desertification and Drought, it a declared day to promotes public awareness to combat desertification and the effects of drought. There are natural and man made activities that exposes the land to excessive hazard such as landmine, industrialization, construction work ,Urbanisation etc (man made) Desertification, drought, weathering and erosion, earthquake/tsunami and Vulcanicity, etc (natural) causes that degrade the environment. These calls for awareness creation to the public by the stakeholders.
Series of outreach activities worldwide are organize by INGOs, NGOs, Government parastatal workings on environmental protection. It will be an occasion to remind everybody that desertification can be effectively tackled, that solutions are possible and that key tools to this aim lay in strengthened community participation and co-operative at all levels. We are determined to protect the planet from degradation, including through Sustainable consumption and production, Sustainably managing it’s natural resources and taking urgent action on climate change.
We at Jumali and MDSCF call on it targets the world over to volunteer and take advantage of the season we are in (rainy) to participate in activities that could support the public awareness to combat desertification and drought.
