INTERNATIONAL DAY OF AFRICAN CHILD, 16th JUNE.
Today is observe as International day of African child. It is annually observe on this day. It is a United Nations declared day where all member Nations celebrate the day.
It started in 1991 which is initiated by Organization for Africa Union (OAU) to honor those who participated in the Soweto uprising in 1976, ie to commemorate with children killed protesting in Soweto.
Theme for this year’s celebration “Eliminating harmful practices affecting children”
In the observance of the day, it is a time for the world to reflect on the progress made towards children’s rights as well as the barriers they continue to face.
The aim of the day is to create awareness about issues facing young people of Africa. NGOs working with children, schools and other organizations of government are actively participating in today’s event.
Jumali and MDSCF join their secondary targets (children) to commemorate with the rest of African children world to observe the day.
