INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ZERO TOLERANCE TO FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION(FGM), 6TH FEBRUARY.
Today the 6th of February, is observed as International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation. It is declared by United Nations(UN) and observed annually by all member Nations.
Genital refers to psycho-sexual development during puberty in female whilst Mutilation is a state of being mutilated hence Genital Mutilation is seen as term that describes how genital organs of the female are mutilated.
The day is aimed at creating awareness to eradicate the scourge of female genital mutilation.
Civil Society Organizations, including Women or Faith Based Organizations, Governmental and Non Governmental Organizations within and outside the country today gathered and call for the prompt abolition of the act. Collectively engaged in a movement for the right of women and their bodies, as well as the protection of their physical health which can be tremendously affected later in life, fighting violence against women and girls as a whole.
This effort is an geared towards making the world aware of female genital mutilation.
Volunteers also use their resources and voice to protest against FGM in their countries.
Jumali and MDSCF both women and girls organizations join the rest of the women and girls the world over to commemorate with the day.
