INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD; 11 OCT.
The International Day of the Girl child is an international observance day declared by the United Nations; the day is also called the day of the Girls, it is the first day of the Girl child.
This day is celebrated annually on 11th October with the sole aim to promote girls’ empowerment and fulfillment of their Fundamental human rights while also highlighting the challenges that girls all over the world face.

Issues focused on by the day amongst others include; education, equality and child marriage, access to services regarding puberty and sexual health and addressing issues around gender-based violence.

Every year on this day, a theme is drawn agreed by all to reflect the day, then followed activities viz-a-viz marches and special events such as concerts and sporting events to mark the occasion,The observation of the day supports more opportunity for girls and increase awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender. The day also reflects the successful emergence of girls and young women as a distinct cohort in development policy, programming, campaigning and research, shared on social media with the hash tags #girls takeover #day of the Girl.
