INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN, 25Th November.
Women are important pillars in the society, they have important roles they play towards the upbringing of the children of our society. Equally girls who also become women in the long run are equally important. On this note, their rights need to be protected and preserved for the upliftment of the society and the world at large.
Today is observed as International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. It is a United Nations decleared and observed annual Day. Its aimed to Honour Maribal sisters, the three political activists from Dominican Republic who were brutally murdered by order of the country’s ruler. The day was to commemorate and renew global commitment to ending violence and other forms of gender-based violence expercially against Women . This menance remains one of the most persistent violations of human rights across the globe, undermining the health, diginity, security and autonomy of women and girls. Women who have been physically or sexually abused by their partners report higher rates of mental issues, including depression and anxiety, higher use of alcohol and less control and prone to sexual compromise.
Jumali in partnership with MDSCF both associations are involved in the training and empowering of women and girls in the society commemorate with the public and the world over in the observance of the day. They are also adding their voices in the support of government, Non- Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in curbing this menance, so girls and women can contribute towards the development of society and the world at large.
