INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE; 21st Sept.
This day is observed annually on this day by nations all across the world. It is a day set aside by United Nations(UN) General Assembly for everyone around the world to devote to keeping peace, despite any difference they may have, as well as play a part in building a peace culture that will last for generatiions to come. The UN calls on all nations and people to put down their weapon and reaffirm their commitment to living in harmony with one another. Different ways are used in the observance of the day which include among others; awareness campaign, rallies, road show, talk show ie one- on -one, organising peace workshop , putting up peace poles, engaging in peace and other activities that will bring people together. NGOs, CBOs CSOs and other government agencies who engaged in peace programmes activitly participate in this day. The most common event known is a minute silence is observed at 12 noon across the world for all member nations to commemorate with those that lost their lives in the maintainance of peace at the war fronts and other peace innitiatives.
