INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY. 08 Sept.
Today is observed as International Literacy Day, a day set aside by the United Nations and celebrated by all member nations.
The day gives an oppurtunity to express solidarity to Indigenous language. The day focuses on persistent literacy challenges distributed unevenly across countries and population. Embracing linguistic diversity in education and literacy development is central to addressing these literacy challenges and to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The day also seeks to identify with the characteristics of the multilingualism in today’s globalized and digitalized world and the implications for literacy in policies and practice in order to achieve greater inclusion in multilingual contexts.
Activities commemorating include lectures, symposium, seminars and other public outreachto creat awareness on the day, its importances, challenges and call for all stakeholder to prover solutions to the lingering challenges faced by the literacy in the world over.
Jumali and MDSCF join the UN member nations around the world to observe the day.
