WORLD DAY OF COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT, 17th June.
WORLD DAY OF COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT, 17th June.
Desert is large area of land that has very little water and very few plants growing on it. Desert ification is the process of an area becoming desert. Long period of time when there is little or no rain. The two are important environmental problem that causes havoc to it.
The day promotes public awareness to combat desertification and the effects of drought. Series of outreach activities worldwide are organised by INGOs,NGOs and other stakeholders. It is a unique occasion to remind everybody that desertification can be effectively tackled, that solutions are possuble, and that key tools to this aim lay in strengthened community participation and co-operation at all levels. ” We are determined to protect the planet from degradation, including through sustainable consumption and production, sustainably managing its natural resources and tackling urgent action on climate change, so that it can support the need of present and future geberations”. Specifically, halt and reverse land degradation, ” labd has true value- invest in it”, which urged stakeholders to move away from unsustainable land use and make a different by investing in the future of land, “let’s grow the future together”.
Jumali and MDSCF commemorate with everyone in this day by calling all to support in managing the menace.
Happy World Day of Combat Desertification and Drought from JTSLTA/MDSCF.
